14 BIGG producers attended the first of four AgTech eID Producer Group workshops on Wednesday the 21 August at Nuriootpa. Hosted by BIGG's Deb Scammell the workshop was an invaluable event for local producers to establish their breeding priorities, and to expand their knowledge on how eID’s can play a role in their enterprise.
Workshop facilitator, James Lines of Gum Hill Poll Merino Stud, stated that “the goal is to make sure that we aren’t just collecting data, but using it to drive productivity in commercial spaces”.
James delivered informative insights and opportunities for discussion during the workshop, including:
- Establishing a breeding objective.
- Determining traits of economic importance.
- Classing and culling strategies on-farm.
Workshop attendee Mary-Anne Schwartz of Pindari Farm, Waterloo, said the producer group is “a great opportunity to develop our breeding objectives with the aim to utilise the data collected to help us to improve the decisions and direction or our business”.
This AgTech Producer Group has been funded by the Department of Primary Industries and Regions (PIRSA) AgTech Adoption Program.
