Koonunga Ag Bureau
The Koonunga Agricultural Bureau was formed in 1928, with the Koonunga district being surrounded by the three nearby towns of Nuriootpa, Kapunda and Truro.
We currently have about 60 members, ranging in age from 15 to 80 years old and our monthly meetings reflect members’ diverse enterprises, which includes viticulture, broadacre cropping, sheep, dairy and beef. The meeting schedule also incorporates an annual crop and pasture walk, annual vineyard walk and annual day trip outside the region.
Recent meeting topics have included:
- Farm succession planning
- Solar energy technology
- Member gadget and invention evening
- Visit to Adelaide Brighton Cement, Angaston
- Sheep crutching and tool grinding demonstration
- Day trip to the Mid-Murray region (where we visited Thornbys Premuim Lamb feedlot, Bowhill Engineering and almond processor, Costa Brothers Hullers and Shellers)
Koonunga Ag Bureau Program
In August 2013, the Koonunga Ag Bureau launched the ‘Koonunga Sustainability and Biodiversity Project’. This project was implemented around Koonunga and its surrounding districts (Ebenezer, Moppa, Stockwell, St Kitts, Greenock and Kalimna) after it received grants from Caring for our Country, Adelaide and Mt Lofty Ranges NRM Board and the Department of Environment, Water and Natural Resources. View the Summer 2014 Small Talk article on the Koonunga Ag Bureau’s sustainability and biodiversity project.
The Koonunga Ag Bureau’s monthly meetings are held on the first Wednesday of each month and visitors are always welcome. If you are interested in attending or would like more information about the Koonunga Bureau please contact secretary Brenton Mengersen (0409 282 708).
