Mixed Species Pastures: Invertebrate Study Released

In the growing season of 2022, BIGG conducted various demonstrations related to mixed species pastures.

This included engaging Dr Mike Nash (What Bugs You) to monitor the invertebrate (e.g., insects, mites, spiders, beetles) activity and diversity in various paddocks at Moculta during July to October.

The paddocks ranged from highly diverse mixed species cover crops and pastures, canola crop monocultures and an undisturbed grazed native pasture. The results indicated that increased invertebrate abundance and diversity was associated with increased plant diversity.
