Encouraged by a strong start to the Core Strength: Pilates for Rural Living initiative, BIGG in partnership with Pilates Barossa is offering a second five-week class program starting Tuesday 15 October. The new 55-minute mat pilates class is being offered at 7am on a Tuesday as an alternative time slot to accommodate varying preferences, whilst the existing 5pm Monday class will continue.
The program has had a profound impact on those already involved, with participants reporting noticeable improvements in their physical health and overall quality of life. Current pilates participant Kamiel Hamzy, shared the benefits he's experienced saying, ‘Since starting pilates, I’ve noticed a significant difference in my body movements and have less pain in my lower back and body in general.’
Pilates Barossa’s Kate Shelby-James said ‘We couldn't be more pleased with the success of the program to date and the willingness from participants to try pilates and in turn see for themselves the differences it can make to their body and overall health. We love nothing more than sharing the pilates principles to enhance people's lives. We have seen a good broad range of participants with varying levels of fitness and injuries and enjoyed accommodating all within our group sessions.’
‘If this program has grabbed your attention, it's a wonderful opportunity to come and try something new and see for yourself’ added Kate.
As a further encouragement to try pilates BIGG and Pilates Barossa will also continue to offer the subsided induction session for all new pilates clients for only $50 (normally $150) for a limited time only. The induction session is required to help understand individual health needs, assess possible injuries and surgeries and conduct a simple fitness screening prior to commencing pilates.
BIGG launched the Core Strength: Pilates for Rural Living initiative in July to raise awareness and encourage rural communities to try pilates as a tool for improving wellbeing, especially when facing drought. The Barossa area is currently experiencing very dry conditions and BIGG recognises the importance of local producers, along with their families and communities, in taking care of their physical and mental health to improve resilience during these challenging times.
Accessible and beneficial to all ages and most fitness levels, pilates offers both physical and mental health benefits. Pilates can enhance body movement through improved strength, balance and flexibility. It is also effective in reducing stress by offering an opportunity to take time out from daily pressures and connect with others in the community whilst cultivating mindfulness through focused breathwork and intentional movements.
