Barossa Improved Grazing Group

The Barossa Improved Grazing Group Inc (BIGG) is a community-driven network of livestock production and farming groups from the Barossa and surrounding areas. BIGG aims to deliver innovative and practical solutions for sustainable grazing systems to build resilient landscapes and land managers.

 

BIGG operates through a board supported by the Executive Officer, Technical Facilitators and Communications Officer to manage and coordinate technical and extension projects in collaboration with state and national stakeholders, industry partners, and local businesses.

Established in 2012, BIGG is a community-driven livestock and farming network that has its origins from five existing local producer groups; Angaston Ag Bureau, Koonunga Ag Bureau, Mt Pleasant Beef Group, North Rhine Sheep Group and the Barossa Mid North Dairy Discussion Group.

BIGG has been recognised by the industry, being awarded the:

  • 2024 Best Rural Communicator Award Rural Media & Communicators SA/NT Awards
  • 2018 Ag Excellence Alliance grower group award.
  • 2017 Australian Government Excellence in Sustainable Farm Practices Award SA Landcare Awards
  • 2014 Ag Excellence Alliance Sustainability Award by its peers (sponsored by DEWNR), as ‘an outstanding locally based grower group for its achievements in delivering greater NRM outcomes’.
